1. INTRODUCTION
This privacy policy explains how the Historic Reno Preservation Society (HRPS) handles information when you use historicreno.org.
HRPS is a volunteer-run nonprofit. We ask for as little information as possible, we do not sell or share it, and we do not use it for advertising. If you only read the site, we collect no personal information about you.
This policy was last updated on October 21, 2026 to describe the new website. If anything here changes we will update this page.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When you fill in a form on this site
When you use the contact form or sign up for a tour, we receive what you type: your name, email address, and any message. We use that information only to answer you, send you what you asked for, or deliver the tour. We do not add you to a mailing list without your consent.
When you become a member or make a donation
Membership and donations are handled by Wild Apricot (wildapricot.com), our membership platform. If you register, log in, or pay through a link on this site, Wild Apricot collects the information you enter on their secure site. That data is covered by their privacy policy, which you can read at wildapricot.com/privacy-notice.
When you browse the site
We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count visits and see which pages are popular. Umami does not use cookies, does not fingerprint you, and does not record anything that identifies you personally. It stores an anonymous page view with the page URL, your rough country, the type of browser you use, and the site you came from. We cannot connect any of this back to a person.
Our web server also keeps standard access logs for security (your IP address, the time of your visit, and the page you requested). These logs are kept for a short period and used only to investigate problems or attacks.
3. COOKIES
This website does not set tracking cookies. It does set a few technical cookies when they are needed to make a feature work:
- If you log in as a member, Wild Apricot sets a session cookie so it knows who you are during that visit.
- If you watch an embedded YouTube video, YouTube may set its own cookies once you press play. We have no control over those cookies. See the YouTube Privacy Policy.
We do not use any advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party tracking cookies.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the information you give us only for the reason you gave it:
- Answering a message you sent through the contact form.
- Processing a membership, renewal, or donation (through Wild Apricot).
- Registering you for a tour or event (through Wild Apricot).
- Sending our newsletter and event announcements, if you asked to receive them.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone else, except where we are required to by law.
5. HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. The server is maintained by our volunteer web administrator, kept current with security updates, and protected by firewalling and brute-force protection. Member accounts and payments are handled by Wild Apricot on their own secure platform; we never see your Wild Apricot password or any payment card details.
6. LINKS TO OTHER SITES
Our site includes links to other websites. Once you leave our site, we have no control over what those sites do with your information. Please check the privacy policy of any site you visit through a link from here.
7. ACCESSING YOUR INFORMATION
If you would like to see, correct, or delete the personal information HRPS holds about you (for example, your membership record), please contact us at board@historicreno.org and we will respond.
8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any change will be reflected on this page with a new “last updated” date at the top.
